The biggest year in 1974 AD's three-decade career reaches Australia this week. Fresh from a six-country European run, Nepal's most iconic rock band opens the Australian leg of the Rock Yatra tour in Perth on Tuesday 23 September — the first of six confirmed shows across the country.
The European leg, organised in collaboration with Eye Poppers, began with a genuine first: the band's debut concert in Portugal, where more than 1,500 fans packed the Lisbon venue on 7 August for a nearly three-hour set opening with Timilai Pirati and Sambodhan. From there, Rock Yatra travelled through Denmark, France, Poland (another first — Warsaw's Palladium), Malta and Belgium.

- Brisbane — 26 September
- Sydney — 3 October

Formed in Kathmandu in the early 1990s, 1974 AD built their legacy fusing traditional Nepali folk with western rock, blues and jazz. Songs like Nepali, Mutu Bhari Bhari, Sambodhan and Pahilo Junima remain anthems for every generation of Nepalis — whether they grew up in Kathmandu or Craigieburn.
A landmark season for Nepali music in Australia
Rock Yatra lands just weeks after Sushant KC's Pahuna Tour wrapped its own five-city Australian run — proof that the Australian Nepali community, one of the country's fastest-growing diasporas, can now sustain multiple major national tours in a single season.
