Thailand's Nepali community — centred on Bangkok's hospitality and restaurant corridors — celebrates the festival of lights in November's second week. Tihar 2026 in Thailand runs Saturday 7 November to Wednesday 11 November, with Kukur Tihar and Laxmi Puja on Sunday 8 November and Bhai Tika on Wednesday 11 November.
Thailand Tihar 2026 dates
• Kag Tihar: Saturday, 7 November
• Kukur Tihar & Laxmi Puja: Sunday, 8 November — evening puja (~6 PM ICT)
• Gai Tihar: Monday, 9 November
• Govardhan Puja / Mha Puja: Tuesday, 10 November
• Bhai Tika: Wednesday, 11 November
Bangkok sits 1 hour 15 minutes ahead of Nepal, so a late-morning Kathmandu sahit lands around 12:45 PM Thai time — midday on a Wednesday, which pushes most families' ceremony to the early morning or evening; the worldwide sahit er carries the official 2083 announcement, and Nepal–Bangkok time shows the offset.
Community structure
Bangkok's Nepali community is anchored by the Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok and the community associations that organise the festival calendar — with the city's large Nepali restaurant corridor doubling as the festival's social infrastructure: the same kitchens and dining rooms that serve Bangkok's momo and thali trade host the season's Deusi Bhailo gatherings and tika ceremonies. The community also includes a significant multigenerational Thai-Nepali population for whom Tihar is an established part of the city's festival calendar rather than a recent import.
For festival remittances, the THB–NPR rate is on the exchange page; Thailand updates land on the Thailand desk.
