Romania's Nepali community — one of Eastern Europe's fastest-growing — celebrates Tihar in early November. Tihar 2026 in Romania runs Saturday 7 November to Wednesday 11 November, with Laxmi Puja on Sunday 8 November and Bhai Tika on Wednesday 11 November.
Romania Tihar 2026 dates
• Kag Tihar: Saturday, 7 November
• Kukur Tihar & Laxmi Puja: Sunday, 8 November — puja at local sunset
• Gai Tihar: Monday, 9 November
• Govardhan Puja / Mha Puja: Tuesday, 10 November
• Bhai Tika: Wednesday, 11 November (Kartik 25, 2083)
Romania runs 3 hours 45 minutes behind Nepal (EET), so a late-morning Kathmandu sahit lands around 7:45 AM in Bucharest — the worldwide Bhai Tika sahit er carries the official 2083 time with local conversions, and Nepal–Bucharest time shows the live offset.
The community
Romania's Nepali population has grown sharply as the country's labour market opened to South Asian workers — Bucharest holds the largest community, with clusters in Cluj, Timișoara and the industrial corridor cities. Festival organisation runs through community groups and social channels; expect a shared Tihar programme on the 7–8 November weekend and Bhai Tika kept on Wednesday by families and shared households.
For festival remittances, the EUR–NPR rate is on the exchange page. Updates land on the Romania desk and /world/ro.
