Finland's Nepali community — the largest in the Nordic countries — celebrates Tihar in the first half of November. Tihar 2026 in Finland runs Saturday 7 November to Wednesday 11 November, with Laxmi Puja on Sunday 8 November and Bhai Tika on Wednesday 11 November.
Finland Tihar 2026 dates
• Kag Tihar: Saturday, 7 November
• Kukur Tihar & Laxmi Puja: Sunday, 8 November — puja at local sunset
• Gai Tihar: Monday, 9 November
• Govardhan Puja / Mha Puja: Tuesday, 10 November
• Bhai Tika: Wednesday, 11 November (Kartik 25, 2083)
Finland sits 3 hours 45 minutes behind Nepal in November (EET), so a late-morning Kathmandu sahit lands around 7:45 AM Finnish time — the worldwide Bhai Tika sahit er carries the official 2083 time with local conversions, and Nepal–Helsinki time shows the live offset.
The community and its celebrations
Finland's organised Nepali life runs through its associations in the Helsinki capital region — where the community concentrates around the metro corridor — and the university cities of Tampere and Turku. The festival fortnight typically combines a community Tihar programme with Deusi Bhailo performances and a shared dinner, held on the weekend closest to Laxmi Puja, while families keep Bhai Tika itself on the Wednesday. Finland's November darkness is the one thing that suits the festival perfectly: by 4 PM the diyas and lights carry the whole atmosphere.
