Portugal's Nepali community — among the fastest-growing in Europe — marks Tihar in early November. Tihar 2026 in Portugal runs Saturday 7 November to Wednesday 11 November, with Kukur Tihar and Laxmi Puja on Sunday 8 November and Bhai Tika on Wednesday 11 November.

The community and its anchor
Portugal's organised community life runs through NRNA NCC Portugal — legally registered as the Associação de Nepaleses Residentes em Portugal (NRNP) since 2006 — with its office on Avenida Defensores de Chaves in Lisbon. The association's remit includes exactly this: festival celebrations, cultural programmes and the community-solidarity events that keep Nepali tradition visible in a country whose Nepali population has roughly doubled in recent years. Lisbon's community concentrates around the Martim Moniz and Almirante Reis corridors — the streets where the diaspora's restaurants and groceries cluster — with substantial communities in Porto and the Algarve's tourism corridor.
