Where the community celebrates
Germany's Nepali festival life runs through its registered associations — the eingetragener Verein (e.V.) structure that makes community bodies legal entities. Himalayan Pariwar in Munich runs an annual Tihar celebration built around Deusi Bhailo performances and Laxmi Puja; the Nepali-Deutsche Gesellschaft (NEDEG), founded 1991, is the oldest Nepal–Germany friendship society; and the community's own directory now maps Nepali clubs across more than 120 German cities — Berlin alone lists forty-plus. The season opened with the Sugam Pokhrel and Bajagaja Dashain–Tihar night in Heidelberg, organised by a registered Nepali youth association — the same model that carries November's Tihar programmes.
A festival built for early darkness
Germany's early-November darkness is the one thing that makes Tihar translate perfectly: by 5 PM the diyas, LED strings and marigold garlands light up apartment windows in a way the long-daylight countries can't match. Combined with Sunday Laxmi Puja, German families get the festival's centrepiece at full atmosphere this year — then Bhai Tika lands midweek, which in practice means the sibling ceremony moves to Wednesday evening after work.
