Canada's Nepali community celebrates its second festival of the season in early November. Tihar 2026 in Canada runs Saturday 7 November to Wednesday 11 November, with Laxmi Puja on the evening of Sunday 8 November and Bhai Tika on Wednesday 11 November — and this year the country's announced programme is unusually well-organised.

Canada runs 10 hours 45 minutes behind Nepal (Eastern Time), so the Nepal-announced sahit lands near midnight — Canadian families do the ceremony in the local morning or evening of 11 November instead; the worldwide sahit er converts the official time once announced, and Nepal–Toronto time shows the live offset. As with the US, some Canadian panchangas observe the tithi a day earlier — follow your community's chosen day.

The five-suburb model
Ottawa's approach is worth noting because it solves the diaspora's core Tihar problem — distance. Rather than asking families to cross the city to one hall, NHCO takes Deusi Bhailo to the neighbourhoods, running hosted stops across the capital's dispersed Nepali suburbs. It's the model more Canadian cities are adopting as the community spreads beyond a single downtown cluster — Toronto's Scarborough corridor and Ottawa's southern suburbs are where the festival is now densest.
