If you can't be in Kathmandu for Dashain, Toronto's Nepali night scene is bringing a piece of Thamel to Yonge Street. Thamel Night – Dashain Edition lands at The Dopamine – Pub & Lounge, 2415 Yonge Street on Friday, October 16, running 7 PM to 2:30 AM — timed squarely inside the festival week, the night before Fulpati.
The event
Organised by Astra Events, the night is billed as a Dashain-themed Nepali party: Nepali music and dance, a festival atmosphere, and traditional dress encouraged. The 18+ format makes it the season's main late-night option for the community's younger crowd — students, recent arrivals and young professionals who celebrate Dashain differently from the family-tika circuit. Tickets and details are on the official Eventbrite listing.
Why the name works
"Thamel Night" needs no translation for this audience — Thamel is Kathmandu's nightlife quarter, the strip where the city's live music and late-night culture concentrates. Naming a Toronto event after it signals exactly what it is: not a formal cultural programme with speeches, but the diaspora's version of going out for Dashain the way you would back home — dressed up, with your own crowd, to your own music.
Festival week in the GTA
The October 16 date sits in a packed window — Fulpati lands October 17, Ashtami October 18, and the main tika on October 21 — so the night effectively opens the community's biggest week. It also continues the momentum of a busy year for the GTA's Nepali calendar: August's Himalayan Mela at Nathan Phillips Square and September's Dashain Cup in Brampton have already filled the season.
