This October, Europe's single largest new Nepali community celebrates its biggest Dashain yet. Vijaya Dashami — tika day — falls on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, and with Nepalis now Romania's largest foreign worker community, the festival's footprint across Bucharest and the Ilfov industrial belt will be unprecedented.

A workforce festival, not yet a family one
Romania's Dashain differs from Portugal's or the UK's in one key way: the community is overwhelmingly recent and worker-dominated — tens of thousands of mostly single migrants in factories, warehouses and construction sites rather than settled families.
