Canada's Nepali cinema calendar adds another title mid-month: Baa: Ek Yoddha opens in Canadian cinemas on October 15 in a limited release, per international release listings.
The film
Baa: Ek Yoddha is a Nepali family drama marking the directorial debut of Hari Lamsal — a name the audience already knows well from his other career. Lamsal is one of Nepali cinema's established music composers, and Baa: Ek Yoddha is his first film behind the camera rather than behind the score — a transition that has historically produced some of Nepali cinema's most musically literate films.
The cast pairs the next generation with established names: Suhana Thapa, Jharana Thapa, Divyadev Pant and Sagar Khanal lead the ensemble. The Thapa mother-daughter pairing in the same is itself a draw — Jharana Thapa remains one of the industry's most recognised actresses, while Suhana represents its younger wave.
The Canada release
The October 15 Canadian opening is listed as a limited theatrical release — the pattern for mid-size Nepali titles in this market, where films play a short run at the South Asian cinema circuit concentrated in the GTA and Vancouver rather than a wide nationwide rollout. Showtimes appear on cinema sites and release ers closer to the date; our Canada Nepali movies guide s confirmed listings as they're published.
Part of a packed October
The release lands in the strongest month of Nepali commercial cinema the Canadian market has seen: Acharya is already playing, Jhingedaau 2 is in the international rollout, and Pension Patta is working through its overseas markets. For a Canadian audience that until recently waited months for any Nepali theatrical title, four films in one cycle is a shift — our movies section covers the full slate.
