Adelaide Set to Host Historic 7th Oceania Nepalese Sports Meet in 2027
Adelaide is set to become the centre of Nepalese sporting excellence in Oceania as preparations officially begin for the 7th Oceania Nepalese Sports Meet (ONSM) 2027, one of the biggest sporting gatherings for the Nepalese diaspora across Australia and New Zealand.
To successfully deliver the landmark event, organisers have established the Oceania Coordination Committee (OCC), bringing together representatives from Australian states and territories along with New Zealand. The committee will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of the major multi-sport festival.
Vijay Joshi, a recognised figure in Australia’s multicultural sporting community and a Cricket Australia Multicultural Ambassador, has been appointed as the Chair of the Oceania Coordination Committee. Joshi will lead the overall strategic direction and work closely with representatives across the region to ensure the successful delivery of the event.
The OCC includes representatives from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory, the Northern Territory, and New Zealand, highlighting the strong regional collaboration behind the event. Various portfolios including finance, logistics, media, information technology, event management, cultural programs, promotion, sports coordination, and medical services have also been established to support the large-scale event.
The Oceania Nepalese Sports Meet has grown beyond a traditional sporting tournament. It has become a major platform for bringing Nepalese communities together, encouraging youth participation, promoting healthy lifestyles, developing sporting talent, and strengthening cultural connections among Nepalese living across Australia and New Zealand.
The 2027 Adelaide edition is expected to attract hundreds of athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters representing Nepalese communities from across Australia and New Zealand. Alongside competitive sporting events, the festival will feature cultural celebrations, community networking opportunities, and programs showcasing Nepalese heritage and unity.
