Frequently asked questions
What is the Preeti font?
Preeti is a legacy non-Unicode Nepali font. Text typed in Preeti looks like ordinary Latin letters (for example "g;kfn") and only renders as Nepali on computers that have the Preeti font installed. It was the standard in Nepali newspapers, government offices and printing before Unicode.
Why convert Preeti to Unicode?
Preeti text breaks online — Google cannot index it properly and phones without the font show gibberish. Nepali Unicode (Devanagari) works everywhere: websites, Word, WhatsApp, Facebook and mobile apps. Converting makes old documents searchable and shareable.
How do I convert Preeti text to Unicode?
Copy your Preeti text, paste it into the left box on this page, and the Unicode output appears instantly on the right. Then copy the result and paste it anywhere. No software install needed — the conversion runs entirely in your browser.
Is this Preeti to Unicode converter free?
Yes, completely free with no signup. Your text is converted inside your own browser — nothing is uploaded or stored on our servers.
Can I convert a whole Word document?
Yes — click "Upload .docx" and pick a Word file. The document text is extracted and converted inside your browser, so the file never leaves your device. Older .doc files are not supported; open them in Word and save as .docx first.
Does it work with Kantipur or Sagarmatha fonts?
This tool is built for Preeti, the most common legacy Nepali font. Text typed in other fonts (Kantipur, Sagarmatha, PCS Nepali) uses different character mappings, so results may be partially incorrect for those.
Conversion rules adapted from the FOSS Nepal nep-ttf2utf project (Apache-2.0).
