What Happened

On Wednesday, 26 August 2026, a sudden flash flood struck the Bhotekoshi river near the Nepal-China border. An avalanche on the Tibetan side blocked the Lhende tributary, then burst — sending a wall of water, mud and rock through Timure, Syaphrubesi, Betrawati and downstream along the Trishuli river. There was no rainfall and no warning. The flood struck at around 9 AM when people were going about their daily routines.
