Holi in Australia
Holi 2026 falls on March 2 in Australia. Find colour festivals, DJ nights, and Nepali community Holi celebrations in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane & Adelaide.
Holi — होली, Fagu Purnima — is the festival of colours, marking the arrival of spring and the triumph of the devotee Prahlad over the demoness Holika. In Nepal it begins a week before the full moon when the chir — a ceremonial pole hung with colourful cloth strips — is raised at Basantapur in Kathmandu.
On the day itself the streets become a free-for-all of coloured powder, water balloons and music. The Terai celebrates a day after the hills, and in Australia the festival has become one of the diaspora's biggest event formats — colour festivals, Holi pool parties and community melas run through March in every major city.
